48 Hours at Brussels, what to see!

Brussels

Brussels is definitely a city to behold; its impressive architecture, delicious waffles, chocolates at every corner and of course, endless fries are good enough reasons to leave anyone speechless! 48 hours in Brussels, everything you need to see!

Arrival

You can travel there by airplane with a direct Ryanair or Aegean directly to Brussels via Ryanair and Aegean. I chose to fly with Ryanair from Thessaloniki, because the available hours worked best for me, while the tickets were also cheaper. Before you book your tickets, make sure to check the departure and return hours. To reach the city center from the airport, taxis are always an option; however, taking the bus via Flygbussarna is the most affordable and quick solution. I landed to Charleroi airport and arrived at the city through the central railway train within 40 minutes. You should bear in mind that Brussels is an expensive place to live in compared to Greece, however, the bus from the airport to the city center will not cost you more than 5 euros.

Must-see city spots

1. Grand Palace

No matter how many times you’ve visited Grand Palace, its beauty makes every visit worth it. It was built around 300 years ago and you should not miss it for anything!

At Grand Palace, events and bazaars are hosted during all seasons of the year. Also, make sure to visit the town Museum, as well as the City Hall. Both are located in the central square.

2. Delicious Waffles (you should taste them at all costs)

Waffles are probably one of my favorite things in Brussels; you can’t leave, unless you get to taste them. I literally ate 2-3 waffles a day during my stay there.

Waffles will be served everywhere you go in various, delicious combinations. We had our best takeaway waffle, which we bought from a small store at the city center of Brussels, called Los Churros & Waffle. Los Churros & Waffle.

Fench fries like you’ve never had them before

Brussels is one of the most ideal European cities for foodies. If Belgium’s food culture is well-known for one thing, that’s french fries. They are the country’s national snack! I know it might sound controversial, but it’s true.

They are often perfectly combined with endless sauce flavors or just classic mayo.

My suggestion would be @Friterie.tabora. You will be able to spot it immediately once you see the crowds waiting to get in. It’s a little store in Rue De Tabora; no matter how long the queue is, I guarantee it will be worth the wait.

4. Manneken Pis

BRUSSELS 12

He may be small, but he’s definitely a must-see if you’re visiting Brussels for the first time.

I actually think he’s worth a visit every time, because he owns 900 different costumes, so he will be dressed differently every time.

I’m talking about a 61 cm tall statue, which was placed there in 1618.

Legend has it that it was inspired by a young spy, who, during a siege, saw the enemy trying to blow the walls of the city up. In order to prevent them, he urinated on the candle wick to blow it out.

5. Atomium

Built in 1950, Atomium is located just outside the city. It’s a great place for those who’d like to see something different. It’s more than 100 m. tall, offering a great city view.

Finding Tintin

Tintin and the Smurfs have their origins in Belgium; this is the country our beloved comic characters were born in. Comic graffitis are all around the city center; all you have to do is look around the building walls.

7. Taste the delicious chocolates

Just like waffles and french fries, chocolates are an absolute must during your stay in Belgium.

Wherever you look, you will find beautifully styled, neat chocolaterias; no, these are not Tiffany’s jewelry shops, they’re actual chocolate shops.

One visit to Brussels is never enough, and not just because you won’t have time to see everything, but also because this place will definitely leave you craving for more french fries, waffles and chocolates.
